On stage, country music legend Naomi Judd seemed carefree, a melody in her heart with her daughter by her side.<\/p>\n
But following her death this week, we were reminded that, off-stage, she was fighting a battle with a longtime foe — depression.<\/p>\n
Judd fought that fight as her fans watched, saying, “Depression is not a character flaw, it’s a disease. And every day, many Americans face that same invisible adversary.”<\/p>\n
This month is Mental Health Awareness Month, and according to the National Alliance of Mental Health, one in five adults suffer from some type of mental illness.<\/p>\n
As Judd continued her public fight with depression, her daughters, Winona and Ashley, also spoke about their own battles.<\/p>\n
But here’s what matters: They each sought help.<\/p>\n
