Panic disorder is a type of anxiety disorder that causes panic attacks. Those who suffer from it, might have feelings of terror in situations when there is no real danger. However, people who suffer from this kind of disorder may feel as if they are losing control over life.
Some of the main symptoms of panic attacks are: fast heartbeat, chest or stomach pain, trouble breathing, weakness, dizziness, sweating, feeling hot or cold, tingly or numb hands.
Not everyone who has panic attacks has panic disorder. That’s why in order to get a medical diagnosis, you might have these symptoms: frequent and unexpected panic attacks, at least one of the attacks has been followed by worry about a new episode, fear of losing control, heart attack, thinking to be losing their minds, drastic changes of behavior or fear. Even if you are not diagnosed with panic disorder you can benefit from the treatment.
This disorder is characterized by the inability to recover after experiencing or witnessing a frightening event.
It can last from months to years and there are often episodes that are reminiscent of the trauma and cause intense emotional and physical reactions.
Symptoms include having nightmares or flashbacks, avoiding situations that are reminiscent of the trauma, overreacting to stimuli, and experiencing anxiety or depression

Symptoms

  • Behavior: agitation, irritability, social withdrawal, self-destructive behavior, hypervigilance, or hostility
  • Psychological: flashback, intense anxiety, distrust or fear
  • Mood: loss of interest or pleasure in activities, guilt, or loneliness
  • Sleep: insomnia or nightmares
  • Also common: emotional detachment or unwanted thoughts
