Don’t suffer in silence. Speak up

On stage, country music legend Naomi Judd seemed carefree, a melody in her heart with her daughter by her side.

But following her death this week, we were reminded that, off-stage, she was fighting a battle with a longtime foe — depression.

Judd fought that fight as her fans watched, saying, “Depression is not a character flaw, it’s a disease. And every day, many Americans face that same invisible adversary.”

This month is Mental Health Awareness Month, and according to the National Alliance of Mental Health, one in five adults suffer from some type of mental illness.

As Judd continued her public fight with depression, her daughters, Winona and Ashley, also spoke about their own battles.

But here’s what matters: They each sought help.

If you feel like the patterns of your life, or the life of a loved one, have changed and you can’t cope, don’t go it alone. It may be time to seek professional care.

And we can help: Tap here for Maryland Peace of Mind resources that may provide or get you the help you need.
