Obsessive Compulsive Personality

Obsessive Compulsive Personality

People with obsessive-compulsive personality disorder experience feelings that they consider more appropriate, such as anxiety or frustration. A person with OCPD has symptoms of perfectionism that usually begin in early adulthood.

Diagnosis

The prognosis for OCPD tends to be better than that of other personality disorders. Rigidity and control of OCPD can prevent many of the complications, such as substance use, that are common in other personality disorders.
The social withdrawal and difficulty managing anger that are common with OCPD can lead to depression and anxiety later in life.

Symptoms

  • Excessive devotion to work
  • Inability to get rid of things, even if the object is worthless
  • Inflexibility
  • lack of generosity
  • Refusal to let other people do things
  • Lack of desire to show affection
  • Preoccupation with details, rules and lists
